Getting to Sevierville Tennessee

Getting There

Getting to Sevierville by car is the choice of many visitors – which is only natural, as the town is within a day's drive to over half the nation's population. Interstate 40, which passes through Nashville, takes you to Exit 407, which is an easy and fast route to Sevierville as well as to nearby Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.  Coming from the north, I-75 takes you to Knoxville, from which you can catch 1-40. Scenic Route 66, which runs through Sevier County, is being widened to improve the flow of traffic to Sevierville.

If you travel by plane, Sevierville is served by Knoxville's McGhee Tyson Airport, which lands 100 commercial flights daily.

Once you're in town, ride the Sevierville Trolleys for just 50 cents per ride – it's a fun and affordable way to tour the city.

What to pack for Sevierville Vacation

What to Pack

From March to May, the weather systems can radically and quickly change. Average highs are in the 60s to 70s Fahrenheit with lows from below freezing to the mid-40s.

Once summer hits, June, July and August bring humidity and highs in the 80s to 90s with comfortable lows in the 60s.

September through November deliver a true sense of fall with highs in the mid-70s and lows in the middle-50s.  From December and into February, you could easily see snow with highs in the 40s to 50s and lows in the teens to upper 20s.

Because you'll be spending quality time outdoors, layers of breathable, moisture-wicking materials will serve you well. Bring a jacket to handle sudden wind or rain from the mountains, and always have a pair of comfortable, well-fitting shoes or boots to tackle the trails.  Rain and snow are common in this part of Tennessee, so pack accordingly. The region maintains a consistent precipitation of about 3 to 5 inches per month.

The biggest attraction, of course, is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, just minutes from the city limits. Popular beginner-level hikes include Andrews Bald, which takes you up just far enough to marvel at the Smoky Mountain highlands; and Porters Creek Trail, which delights the senses with its backdrop of waterfalls and wildflowers. Tennessee is the home to the most caves in America, and Forbidden Caverns, conveniently located in Sevierville, is a top attraction.

Sevierville fun continues with a host of attractions and activities for the whole family. Adrenaline Park is the home of the longest glass-bottom skybridge. Also within easy access are petting zoos, horseback rides and NASCAR-themed go-kart tracks, plus golf, tennis and swimming are all nearby.
